On-call - Youth Direct Care

(Olympia, WA & Tacoma, WA)

START AT $19.00 per hour

We are seeking qualified and caring individuals interested in working with female children between the ages of 11-17 years old (up to 5 in the house) who have experienced abuse or neglect. Our goal is to provide an emergency and temporary, yet safe and stable environment.

ON-CALL Shift availability:

  • On-Call, Part-Time Position: Sign up for open shifts as needed.

  • Day and Swing Shifts: Monday-Sunday, generally 7am-3pm or 3pm-11pm.

  • Overnight Shifts: Monday-Sunday, typically 11pm-7am.

  • Awake Overnight Requirement: Must stay awake and alert for the entire overnight shift.

Responsibility:

  • Document daily shift activities following program policies and contract standards.

  • Supervise and monitor youth to ensure compliance with rules and safety, maintaining auditory and visual line of sight.

  • Assess and respond to youth behaviors and attitudes appropriately.

  • Conduct contraband control and confiscation procedures.

  • Provide feedback on resident programs, treatment, or case plans.

  • Facilitate meetings, therapeutic groups, and structured activities as directed.

  • Handle intake, discharge, and orientation procedures for youth.

  • Prepare incident and informational reports as needed.

  • Assist with meal service, storage, and preparation.

  • Oversee family visitations and assist external personnel and volunteers.

  • Manage medication storage and dispensing in line with program policies.

  • Transport young people to outside activities per guidelines.

  • Act as shift lead in the absence of the on-site program manager.

  • Conduct safety checks of the facility and grounds.

  • Report safety, sanitation, and security concerns as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with health, hygiene, safety, and maintenance standards.

  • Supervise youth's schoolwork, chores, and cleaning duties.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Age 21+, or 18-21 if enrolled in an internship with JMC or a related bachelor's program with supervision.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

  • Transportation required: Must safely transport self and clients; proof of adequate vehicle insurance or ability to travel to areas without public transit.

  • High school diploma/GED/HSEC required.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with teens or young adults in fields like foster care, education, juvenile justice, mental health, or homelessness.

  • Strong youth engagement and relationship-building skills.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Basic computer proficiency.

  • First Aid and CPR certification, or complete within 30 days of hire.

  • HIV/bloodborne pathogens training, or complete within 30 days of hire.

  • Adaptable, collaborative, and thrives in a team environment.

  • High ownership and strong work ethic.

  • Problem-solving skills and ability to think on your feet.

  • Service-oriented with a passion for helping others.

Travel Requirements:

  • Some travel is required, mainly local or regional for training or transporting youth.

  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the facility.

  • Valid driver’s license required, with at least three years of driving experience.

  • Clean Driving record

Work Environment:

  • Indoors and outdoors in a home setting.

  • Exposure to typical household hazards.

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual inspection of clients and rooms for contraband.

  • Lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally.

  • Ability to sit or stand continuously; bend, squat, kneel, and reach overhead.

  • Climb stairs as needed.

  • Perform tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and behavior management while maintaining line of sight.

  • Stay awake and alert to meet clients' needs during all shifts.

Salary: $19.00 per hour
